Use An Indoor Dog Potty When You Can't Take Your Pooch Out

By Jill Krackenburg

An indoor dog potty is great if you can't take your dog out for a walk or let them out in a yard all the time. If you live in an apartment building, or you can't get out and walk your best friend, having a place for them to relieve themselves indoors is great. There are litter boxes for indoor cats so why not something for small to medium sized dogs.

An indoor dog potty can be purchased in a variety of style and designs, these can all be kept inside your home or on a terrace. The potties vary by how the waste is collected, and what kind of material is on top that your dog will squat on. If you found that Wee Wee pads are not enough for your dog, you may want to consider looking at a few of these options.

The indoor dog potty was created for dogs who stay indoors so that they could feel comfortable and so you will not notice an odor every time they do their business. Every potty has a plastic pan with either a grate, or synthetic grass on top for your dog to stand on. Both of these let the liquid waste filter through to the pan that can be lined with newspaper or Wee Wee pads.

Even dog training for dummies will tell you that it will be easier to train a puppy to go on the indoor dog potty with the grate, dogs that were used to going outside will not adjust to the grate as easily since it feels very different on their paws. For an older dog who was used to going outside and if they need to start relieving themselves indoor it might be best to go with the potty that has synthetic grass on top.

You need to consider what it takes to clean the indoor dog potty, the pads or newspapers that you put in the bottom of the pan will need to be changed frequently to avoid an odor. The grass can be washed out with warm water and soap and the grate also needs to be cleaned. The pan itself will also need to be washed out often.

To summarize, the indoor dog potty for your pet is perfect if you cannot get our to walk your dog. The models with the grates are best for a new puppy, these models need to have some type of absorbent pad in the pan that will need to be changed frequently. The indoor dog potty with the grass, has a basin that collects the liquid, so you only pull out that piece and wash it, along with grass. You know your needs and your dogs preferences best and since these can get rather expensive it is best to choose your indoor dog potty after careful consideration.
