By Alicia Ainsley Summers When House Training Puppies, crate training is the quickest way to get the job done. It works so well because when crate training puppies, it's very simple to get a handle on your dog's eating and toilet schedule, while making it very clear to your puppy where the toilet area is.
Many inexperienced dog owners are uncomfortable with the idea of crate training, as it might seem harsh or cruel. Dogs enjoy having a private den area, and the crate becomes a safe space for your puppy that he knows is his "home" and he can go to when he's tired. The way crate training basically works is that a puppy is resistant to going to the toilet in his own space, and will try to hold off on relieving himself until he can get to another location-this is why crate training works.
You should purchase a crate that is big enough to let your puppy get up and walk around in a small circle and lie down. As he gets larger, you might upgrade to a larger crate if needed. Dogs do not like to lie in their own urine (who would??) and so they will hold off as long as they possibly can.
Keep track of the times each day your puppy drinks, eats and goes to the bathroom throughout the day. Then put together a toilet break schedule based on the times of day your puppy might need to go potty. Potty times usually happen first thing in the morning, after vigorous play, about 30 minutes after eating, and just before bedtime. For very young puppies a few nighttime time trips might be needed if they cannot hold it all night long.
The first thing you do when you take your puppy out of his crate is take him right to the toilet area. If he gets easily distracted, simply carry him straight there and set him down in the toilet area. Be prepared to watch and wait for 10-15 minutes, especially in the beginning. Once he has finished his business, immediately give lots of verbal praise and offer him a treat. If nothing happens, take him back to the crate, and try again in about 20 minutes. Repeat until successful, and then reward the good behavior with playtime, as well as lots of praise and affection. It is important to teach your dog that he needs to go potty first, then he can have playtime. This sets him up to expect and understand that he should get his business done and then he gets playtime.
Crate training puppies can take a lot of time in the beginning, but be patient with your puppy. Crate training works. Your puppy should be kept in his crate throughout the day and night but with frequent, regular breaks for playing.
Keep your eyes on your puppy at all times whenever he is out of the crate playing or wandering about. You have to train your eyes on him at all times, and if you see he is about to go on the carpet, swoop in and take him out to the right area immediately. This will be awkward (especially mid-stream) , but it is the only opportunity to help your puppy understand where his toilet area is and change his habits.
When you are in the middle of house training puppies, you should understand that accidents will happen, just be prepared not to call attention to it. Quietly clean it up without letting your dog see. You'll want to use proper dog mess cleaning products that take care of the smell of urine. It will take time and patience for your puppy to learn proper potty habits, so be patient with him.

But she was never trained, and still has a lot of "puppy" in her. She jumps up (over and over and over again no matter how many times you tell her "down" or "no"), barks like crazy at anything and everything that moves (even the neighbors that she's gotten used to), and will pee/poop in the house if we allow her out of her cage for extended periods of time (even if she's just come in from outside). By Don De Good Know your options well before you start dog training. There are now quite a variety of dog training methods available. Each of these training courses offers something different, with different price levels.
The first type of dog training is known as puppy preschool. This is a dog training course meant for puppies that are about 6 weeks to 5 months old. These puppy preschool classes generally last for no more than 6 to 8 weeks. In these training sessions, your puppy is essentially taught how to socialize with people and as well as other puppies. Here your puppy also begins to learn how to sit down, stay at a place, and how to come.
The second option of dog training is intended for dogs that are over 5 months old. That course is usually referred to as basic dog training. These classes generally last for roughly two months. You can talk and travel on a leash is the message that a dog learns in it's first course.
The third option of dog training is the intermediate dog training. This course teaches dogs the same things that are to be learned in basic dog training, but in greater detail. The first way I would suggest is to know the size of your dogs neck. You can find this out by simply taking a tape measure and measuring it. Third I would say pay attention to what the collar is made of. Leather collars can break if too much pressure is applied to them. After all, fighting suggests injury and no owner wants to see their dogs hurt. Unfortunately, breaking them apart can cause more problems and inhibit their ability to completely resolve issues within the "pack."
Below, we'll explain a few of the most common reasons dogs fight amongst themselves. Once you understand the motivations behind their disputes, you'll be better able to control the environment in a manner that doesn't completely disrupt their interaction.
A Struggle For Status
Canines are pack animals and like all pack animals, there is a social structure within their group (even if that "group" only numbers two). The pooch at the top of that structure has the highest status until someone lower in the hierarchy challenges him. When challenged, the dominant canine will either concede his status or accept the challenge by fighting. This struggle for status within the hierarchy is common, especially if multiple dogs live under one roof and enjoy near equal positions within the "pack's" internal structure.
Fighting is often triggered when a new pooch is introduced to the group. Even if he does not issue a challenge for authority and dominance, he may initially be seen as a threat. Another circumstance that can lead to a dispute is when a canine is brought back into the group after having spent a long period of time elsewhere. Positioning to regain status - or protect it - ensues.
When The Owner Shows Favoritism
Owners unwittingly exacerbate internal disputes when they intervene in the fighting. The reason is because that intervention is often perceived as favoritism to a lower-status canine. If a dispute takes place and the owner protects the dog with the lower rank from the higher ranked pooch, the intervention can imply an artificial social status. In doing so, it can impact the existing hierarchy leading to even more fighting when the owner is present.
Steps To Eliminate The Fighting
If you own dogs that fight with each other, it's important that you carefully identify the dominant pooch. The reason is because you need to reinforce the existing social structure. Because access to food, water, and other resources is an important barometer of status with the pack hierarchy, give the dominant pooch first access. That will reduce challenges to authority. To accurately identify dominance, consider their age, dispositions, health, and interaction with each other.
If a dispute happens over access to food, toys, or other items, remove the lower status canine from the environment and give the higher ranked dog access. That sends a clear message that the existing hierarchy has your approval.
Canines fight in order to protect or establish their status within their group. Give them room to resolve matters quickly. If they cannot resolve them, support the existing structure.
Dog toys are things that provide entertainment and keep your dogs busy all day long. These are simple yet very efficient tools that help develop the ability of dogs in properly obeying the command of their masters.

Dogs will naturally not want to eliminate in their place of sleep so as you dog gets used to its new sleeping area it will want to go to the toilet only when they are let out so be sure to take them to their appropriate place for eliminating when they are let out, then reward them for behaving in the correct manner.

I know from experience that even the best dogs aren't always well behaved and do have behaviour problems. Try and imagine making an attempt to deal with two English Mastiffs, and a little Yorkie Poo. They are almost impossible to cope with when they are all together which is reasonably frequently. However, you can learn the tips that i did and how I discovered a way to control my dogs better than I have ever managed to before! Some of the things I'm going to tell you about is training, positive reinforcement, and consulting with your vet to reign out possible health problems. My hubby was not to enthusiastic on the concept, but after they were obedience trained he was quite happy because they were no longer dragging him through the backyard.
